Candle Magick for Manifestation

Candle magick is one of the simplest and most common kinds of magick at least in the western part of the world. We have all blown out candles on the birthday cake while making a wish as kids. But why not take things a step further? Why not use candle magick all year around to make your wishes come true?

This is a simple and yet powerful ritual, if the intention behind is pure and genuine. And any witchy minded person knows that even though your birthday is an extra powerful date to manifest, so are the Moon phases and many other dates… The power of manifestation is said to be extra powerful around full and new Moons but you are the master of your own ritual and if another date feels right for you, go for it! It is your practice and you know when the time is right for you to manifest. 

How to conduct a candle magick ritual.

Let me start with my favorite Aleister Crowley quote because to me this quote captures the essence of what is needed to be successful in your manifestation ritual.

“The first condition of success in magick is purity of purpose” 

So basically make sure that your intentions are pure before you go into this ritual (this goes for all magickal rituals in my opinion). 

There is also empowerment in making a small bowl, plate, dish or whatever filled with material things that supports your intention, manifestation and ritual. Could be soil, coins, pyrite stones, the 9 of pentacles tarot card etc for prosperity, heart shaped objects, rose quartz crystals, The Lovers tarot card, rose petals for love, or whatever represents your dream and desires. Also it always makes sense for me to have the 4(5) elements present on my altar or in my rituals, so add some water, fire, air and earth (and spirit) if possible. 

Choose your candle

You can see the overview below to see what the different color candles traditionally represent or you can go with your intuition. Also if you want to do your ritual but all you have is a decorated glitter xmas candle, this will be fine too. It's the intention you add that really matters. Though the different colors can reinforce the manifestation, any candle will do. And you can use more than one color in a ritual if it makes sense to you. (Not too sure about LED candles though? Personally it's a nope from me, I want real fire)

Now find a good place for your ritual

This could be in front of your house or garden altar, in your bedroom, in the forest, by the sea or anywhere you feel appropriate. Again if you’re nowhere near any of these perfect locations, work with where you are. Just make sure to find a private, quiet place where you can sit in peace for a while.

Most importantly: Set Your Intention

What are you trying to manifest? What is your intention going into this ritual? What is the essence of what you really want? This part is all about finding the balance between being realistic and making your dreams come true. So if you’re looking for a better financial situation, perhaps asking for a 100 million EUR winning lottery ticket might be stretching things too far and asking for 50 EUR for your (gas!) bill may be a bit too short sighted. So trying to ask for better monthly economics might be a better wish. 

Write Down Your Manifestations

When doing rituals you might want to put your phone away to stay focused on the task in front of you. So find your journal or just a piece of paper and a pen for writing down your wishes and manifestations. However I understand that I may be an old fart and that contemporary digital witches may be more comfortable using their phone for journaling etc and if that feels more natural for you feel free to do that. Perhaps setting your phone to "airplane mode" or something to avoid notifications may be a good compromise here. Anyway, put what you wish to manifest into words, make a list or write down some keywords of what you are asking for.

Light The Candle

Light the candle and sit with it for a while, while grounding yourself and clearing your mind from the noise of the world around you. Could be meditation, humming a tune or just closing your eyes for a bit and taking a few deep breaths. Whatever works for you is the way to go. 

Visualize

When your mind is clear, start to visualize what this manifestation would do for you. If you're asking for a better monthly economy like the exemple above, start to visualize what this extra money would be able to do for you every month, the better food you would be able to buy, the new winter coat and the calm and peace you would find not worrying about the bills. Remember this is your visualization so only you know what it looks like. 

Blow Out The Candle

When you feel done you can blow out the candle, or if you use those tiny cake candles that I ‘ve used in the GIF’s you can wait for tem to burn down. If you leave your little ritual somewhere like your altar or other private area you can come back and repeat the ritual again if you like. 

The traditional meaning of the different color candles. 

Red 

This candle is traditionally associated with courage, strength, sexuality, creativity and passion. 

Orange

The color orange can be used for success, prosperity, stamina, business ventures and independence. 

Yellow 

Yellow candles are associated with confidence, happiness, peace, calm and mental clarity. 

Green 

The color green is associated with growth, financial abundance, career, empowerment and fertility. 

Blue 

The color blue is associated with communication, wisdom, honesty and truth. 

Purple 

This color is often used for spiritual connection, psychic ability, wisdom, arcana journeys and ambition. 

White 

The color white is associated with purity, cleansing, blessings, faith and unity. 

Pink 

This color is typically used for love, friendship, new relationships, intimacy and emotional healing. 

Black 

The color black can be used for banishing negative energy, calling for protection, and grounding. 

Gold 

The color gold is associated with abundance, power, new beginnings and happiness.
